Canvas Student Course Navigation Guide

Course Home Page

Your online course's Home page is a hub for accessing all of the content in your class. Here, you can learn about the course's description, syllabus, resources and contact information.

You can also jump to the week on which you're currently working.

Step 1: Overview

Upon entering your course, please read the contents of the Overview tab to get a description of what you'll be studying this term.

Step 2: Syllabus

Once you've read the course overview, you can access your course's syllabus via the Syllabus tab on the home page.

Step 3: References Tab

The readings, videos, etc. that you need to procure for the course are listed on the References tab.

Step 4: Communication

Your instructor's contact information is accessible via the Communication tab on the home page.

In addition, each course has non-assignment discussion boards for students to form a community.

Lower Half of Home Page

At the bottom of your course's Home page, you can navigate to any week's content by clicking on that week's button.

  • Visited weeks have a light gray indicator on the left (Week 1 in this example)
  • Unvisited weeks' indicators are blue
  • Alternatively, you can see all weeks' content at once by clicking on the Modules Page link.

At the bottom of the page, you can submit your feedback about your course's functionality. Our team values your experiences and has already integrated student requests into online courses' designs!

Weekly Summary Pages

Weekly Summary pages are printable lists of the items you need to read, watch, and complete for the week:

  • Click on the Print button on the upper right of the page for printing instructions.
  • To jump to any resource or activity during the week, you can use either the buttons at the top of the page or the list at the bottom.
  • Completed activities are marked in green.
  • Incomplete activities are marked in yellow.
