The process for setting up MFA will begin the first time you log in to any service connected to Microsoft. If you are logging in to email or another Microsoft resource with a new account, you'll be asked for more information after successfully logging in. This means you have successfully entered your credentials and need to set up MFA in order to proceed.

If you are not automatically prompted, you can start the setup process by navigating to https://aka.ms/mfasetup. Enter your @adler.edu email address and click Next, redirecting you to Adler University's login page. Enter your password and click Sign in

Once logged in, you will be told that “more information is required.” Click Next to continue the MFA registration.

You will be redirected to the My Sign-Ins security verification page. Follow the instructions for getting the Microsoft Authenticator app from the App store (iOS) or Play store (Android). Selecting Download now will take you to a link where you can scan QR codes for a link to the individual store pages. You'll know the app is the right one if it says Microsoft Authenticator and has a blue logo that looks like a lock with a person inside. Once you've downloaded the app on your phone, select Next on your computer.

Note: At this time, you may also choose to set up your phone with text or calling as your MFA method. While we still recommend the Authenticator app as your primary MFA method, if you wish to set up MFA with your phone number, you may choose I want to set up a different method

On your phone, follow the instructions about allowing notifications on the Authenticator app if it prompts you. Click Next on your computer.

You will then see a QR code. On your phone, open the authenticator app. If this is the first time you're using the app it will ask you to add an account immediately. If you already have an account, click the ‘+’ in the upper right corner of mobile app to add a new account.

Choose the option for Work or School account and then Scan a QR code

Next, the Microsoft Authenticator app will activate your device’s camera (you may need to click allow to do so).

Use your mobile device's camera to scan the QR code displayed on the Scan the QR code screen on your computer. You should see a notification that the account was added successfully.

Note: If you can't use your phone camera, you'll have to manually enter the 9-digit code and URL.

Return to your computer and the Scan the QR code page. Select Next. The authenticator app will send a notification to your mobile device as a test.

On your mobile device, select Approve.

After approving, you'll see that the notification was approved. Click Next.

You'll see a success message allong with your default sign-in method displayed. If you've set up multiple methods, you'll see them listed here. Click Done

You'll be taken to the landing page for o365 and will be successfully signed in.
