While on-campus at Chicago or Vancouver, personal devices to the Adler network may send jobs to the print queue. This includes users with Mac computers. This article covers the process for sending print jobs on a Mac using the PaperCut MobilityPrint queue through AirPrint as well as steps for troubleshooting issues that may arise.
Add the Print Queue to AirPrint
To install the Print Queue on a Mac, follow the instructions in this article: Print with PaperCut Mobility Print on Personal Devices.
On Mac devices, the Print Queue will be added to AirPrint. Its name will be, "all [campus name] campus printing."
Send a Print Job
Press Command + Print or select File > Print in an application that supports printing. This example is from Notes. Select the print queue. It will be named "all [campus name] campus printing." Select options and then Print when done.
The first time you send a print job to the queue, you will be asked for your Adler credentials. Since printing is handled through AirPrint it's likely the username field will be pre-filled with a personal username asociated with the device and not your Adler account.
Change the name to your Adler email and enter your Adler password. Select Remember this password in my keychain to keep the credentials saved for next time.
Press OK to continue.
Note: Your username, without the, "@adler.edu," will also work in this specific instance since it's one of the few services we use that doesn't use SSO, but if it's easier to remember, just use your email.
Re-enter credentials
If the incorrect credentials were when first sending a job to the queue, the print status will show the following message: "Hold for Authentication." Select the Retry button with the arrow going clockwise to re-enter the credentials.
Ensure the correct credentials and select OK.
Clear and re-add credentials in Keychain
If the incorrect credentials are saved in the keychain, the printing process won't be as consistent. The process may give you the hold for authentication error, the printing status may get stuck on processing and never move, or the process may look as if it completed without any errors but never make it to the print queue.
Note: This will also happen when you change your Adler password. Passwords you save in Keychain won't update when you change your Adler password, so you'll need to manually update it any time it changes.
Open Keychain Access (you can search for, "Keychain," in spotlight search). At the top of Keychain Access, search for the credentials by the name of the print queue, all [campus name] campus printing. Right-click or hold alt and click the entry for the print queue and select Delete [queue name].
You can enter new credentials from Keychain Access or enter them the next time you send a print job.
Remove and re-add print queue
If something is wrong with the installation of the print queue, you can try removing it and re-adding it to AirPrint. Open Printers & Scanners in System Settings (you can search for it in spotlight search).
Click on the print queue. It will be named, "all [campus name] campus printing."
In the settings page for the print queue select Remove Printer... at the bottom.
Add the printer back by following the procedure in the Add Print Queue to AirPrint section.
