Use Microsoft Teams to run a mock counseling training session

Given Teams' integration with Microsoft Office 365, and that Office 365 is available to every employee and student at Adler University without additional cost, Teams is the best video conferencing platform for educational purposes. In addition, Adler University also has a Business Associate Agreement with Microsoft in which Microsoft indicates that its products conform to HIPAA and PIPA standards when used properly to protect health information that the university becomes holders of for educational purposes.

When used like Zoom for mock counseling sessions with students, Teams will automatically save recordings into a secure OneDrive folder. Below are instructions for students and faculty on use of Teams for various educational activities such as mock counseling sessions.

  1. In the Outlook desktop app create a new calendar entry and click Teams Meeting:
  2. Or in Outlook on the Web click the Teams meeting toggle on a new calendar event:

  3. Enter the appropriate Meeting Information including users, date, time, etc.
  4. NOTE: Use the Scheduling Assistant to view times you and your internal participants are available.
  5. Select Send. A meeting will be added to your calendar and an invite will be sent to the other participants with the Teams video meeting information included.
  6. To join a scheduled video meeting, open the Meeting Invitation in the Outlook calendar.
  7. Click the link in the calendar invite to join the meeting.
  8.
  9. Ensure your Video and Audio are turned on/off appropriately.
  10. Select Join Now.
  11. ''
  12. After joining, you may choose to record your meeting. Teams meetings can be recorded via the settings once a meeting starts – there’s a “Start Recording” option you need to click.

  13.  Recordings are automatically stored in the meeting host's OneDrive > Recordings folder. Meeting recordings are only visible to the meeting organizer and internal attendees. Meeting guests such as clients that are external to Adler are not able to access meeting recordings.
