Why does this happen?
On rare occasions, Windows devices may display a BitLocker prompt on startup, requiring a key to unlock the device and continue booting. This can happen if the device was started incorrectly or following a firmware update on some devices. If it regularly happens, contact the service desk.
How do I find my BitLocker key?
First, try pressing Skip this drive and/or rebooting the computer. This sometimes bypasses BitLocker completely. If it doesn't, continue on to the steps below to look up your own BitLocker key.
- Using another device, navigate to https://myaccount.microsoft.com/device-list and sign in with your Adler credentials.
You'll be taken to the Devices page. - Click to expand these drop-downs for any Active devices
- Your Adler device will have a button to View Bitlocker Keys (rather than Disable Device), which you can press to reveal your BitLocker key(s)
The list of BitLocker keys will be sorted with the most recent at the top—this is almost always the one you’re looking for. You can confirm it's the right key by comparing the Key ID with the one displayed on your locked computer. Select Show recovery key to display the 36-digit key code.
Enter the key into the BitLocker prompt on your locked computer and press Enter. The device will continue booting afterwards.
