Recording videos with the Panopto integration in Canvas

Recordings can be added to assignments and discussions in Canvas using the rich text editor. Recordings can be initiated from the browser or the Panopto desktop app if it is installed. 


Note: If you are on a personal device, you may install the Panopto desktop app from Adler's Panopto Portal. If you are on an Adler device, please install the Panopto desktop app from the Company Portal app. See How to Install Apps on my Adler PC.



Recording a Video for a Discussion Post


Click in the Reply text field.


Click the Panopto icon at the top of the rich text editor menu ribbon. 


Select Record

Ensure the proper Panopto folder is chosen from the drop-down menu (usually labeled My Folder)


Enter a name for your recording (the default will be the date and time). Choose between Launch Capture to record in the browser using the Panopto integration and Launch App, which will launch the Panopto desktop app.

Select Launch Capture to open the recorder. You may be prompted to allow Panopto your camera and microphone. Allow them to record. You'll see the capture controls. Select Audio or Video to change the source of your inputs or add additional channels. Select Screens and Apps to add screen recordings to your video. When ready, press the red button at the bottom center to start recording. 



You will see a countdown and the recording will start. You can see how long the recording has been going at the bottom right. When you're ready to end the recording, press the square button to stop. 


You will see a summary of the recording you took. Change the name or make edits to the video in the Panopto editor. 


The video will now be processed by Panopto, you'll see a message that it's safe to close the browser window. You may do so once you're happy with the video name and settings. 



Record with the Panopto desktop app


Select Launch App to launch the Panopto desktop app. Select primary and secondary sources from the menu on the left. At the top left, press the red button labeled Record to start recording.


You'll see the recording begin and can see how long it's been going from the recording time. When you're ready to stop, press the button with the square on it labeled Stop. You'll have the option to add a description and a final chance to rename the video. Select Done when ready. If you don't select Done, the confirmation window will close after the video is done processing. You may now exit the Panopto desktop app. 



Insert uploaded recording to discussion


Return to the tab with the discussion, the video will be in the record tab. Select Insert to add the video to the discussion. 


Select Post Reply to add the post the video to the discussion board.
